As much as I enjoyed the immersion we had before, the one for our last still left something for me to ponder on. I wasn't able to take pictures though, since I decided to leave my phone and enjoy this community service without having gadgets to interfere and tempt me.
So upon arrival, I immediately found a kid to look after and help with the activity book they were given. Well, the kid I was able to work with, caught my eye because despite being a cute little boy he was very quiet and very much busy with his work. I didn't mind that he was sometimes ignoring me or he was very shy to answer me I guess? You see, the moment I approached him and asked the general stuff like his name and age, I already saw the eagerness of the kid to finish the workbook even though all of his friends were disturbing and trying to distract him. I already realized, woah this kid's good. Like despite the cramp place and the poor ventilation as well as the proper table and chairs that lacked, he was very determined to finish his work. Especially in my experience, starting from grade school to college, you can't just get rid of and run away from laziness. I mean, who wouldn't? But if you could just seen the confidence and how persevering little Prince was, (that's his name) I became guilty of all the times I betrayed my work and tasks for me to relax and do other useless stuff. Being a college student already, and here am I learning something from a kid very much younger than me. I was kinda surprised how I was able to learn something or more one reflect what I am doing everyday. People we visited during our immersion lacked some of the things I have right now, and even some of the blessings I have. And by having to see and interact with these kids, made me realize how truly blessed I am in many ways. The fact that sometimes I don't really do my best in school or get lazy with my homework, there are actually people like Prince who persevere and are very diligent when it comes to their education.
I remember asking him, if they were supposed to finish their workbook and he just told me that he wants to finish it for no apparent reason. But upon seeing his work, the letters he was tracing was very clean and looks very good. It just shows how he loves what he is doing, and he is not just doing it for the sake of finishing. That is something we all need to work on nowadays. Especially since we are always bombarded with a lot of things that could distract us, spending a few minutes to work on and put effort on something won't hurt us. The experience I had with Prince enabled me to clear my mind and make me think about what my real priorities are. He made me treasure my education more, and made it more important to me for some reason. And I'm very much excited for the journey Prince will be facing in the future, since I know that someday he will be successful.
Sometimes, we just need a quick look at other people just to realize what our stand in life is. From that, we can change ourselves for the better and make sure that we cherish every blessing that is given to us.
